Pollo!...etc...

Three of our six field sites are behind a gate, past the plantation supervisor's house. It's a fairly modest house with a few outbuildings, an aged orchard, and laundry out on the line. The first time past we didn't notice anything, but the last two times we've driven past we've seen some chickens and turkeys roaming the plantation nearby. We assume these guys are the supervisor's livestock, and not wild chickens and turkeys on the loose in the plantation. That's our assumption anyway...

Chickens are kind of cute, I think, but turkeys are a different story. They look archaic and slightly crabby. Maybe he's just worried that we'll use him for our American Thanksgiving dinner in a few weeks.

If you look closely, there's a flock of babies with these two. I think there were 12 (possibly thirteen according to some crafty skills of a picture that no longer exists...) little babies following these two grown-ups around. I've never seen baby turkeys before...
And this guy (I think) is the little calf's buddy. They hang out together most of the time, either with some more of the herd or on their own. Today they were fenced in a small exclosure near the house at La Corona, possibly for the great forage that was there, or for some other unknown reason. He's way more skittish than the young calf who walks up to you. He's cute, too, but he's definitely losing his little-baby-calf appearance.
